x= 5 + y
28x – 9y = -12
substitute x= 5 + y into 28x – 9y = -12
28x – 9y= -12
28(5 + y) – 9y = -12
140 + 28y - 9y = -12
19y = -152
y = -8
x = 5 + y
x = 5 - 8
x = -3
solution (-3, -8)
