Someone who worked in the mills and returned home to marry: Lowell Girls.

The Boston Manufacturing Company was founded by Francis Cabot Lowell in 1813. He built a textile mill in Waltham, Massachusetts close to the Charles River. He believed that housing and education should be provided by the mill. The Lowell Mill Girls were young female workers that worked in the mills during the Industrial Revolution. The age range was from 15 to 35. Some women were motivated to go the mills in order to get some education. Many women were able to be economically independent despite receiving half of the salary that men received. Many women later joined the American labor movement.
