It appears that these are two isosceles right triangles, each having a pair of 45° angles.

Since sides opposite the same angles are equal.

x=5

And according to the Pythagorean Theorem.

h^2=5^2+5^2

h^2=25+25

h^2=2*25

h=√(2*25)

h=5√2

So y=5√2, then (x,y)=(5, 5√2)

...

Again since the x and y sides are opposite the same angle, we can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the side lengths, x and y, which are equal to each other.

(4√2)^2=x^2+y^2 and since x=y=s we have

16*2=s^2+s^2

32=2s^2

16=s^2

s=√16

s=4 units.

So x and y equal 4
