x=cost per pound of trail mix
y=cost per pound of jelly beans

5x+3y=22
2x+12y=25

eliminate y's
multiply first equation by -4 and add to 2nd equation

-20x-12y=-88
2x+12y=25 +
-18x=-63

-18x=-63
divide both sides by -18
x=3.5

sub back
5x+3y=22
5(3.5)+3y=22
17.5+3y=22
3y=4.5
y=1.5

each pound of trail mix costs $3.50
each pound of jelly beans costs $1.50
