The Soviets Union responded with building the Berlin Wall and cutting off access to the city of Berlin for their Democratic Allies. They did not allow any road transportation of food, material, etc through the roads to Berlin. This was called the Berlin Blockade. The US responded with air dropping supplies until the Soviets finally admitted defeat

hope this helps
