Uses of the distance formula

→Distance between two points in two dimensional plane, having coordinates

(x_(1),y_(1)) {\text{and}} (x_(2),y_(2))=\sqrt{(x_(2)-x_(1))^2+(y_(2)-y_(1))^2

→Distance between two points in three dimensional plane, having coordinates

(x_(1),y_(1),z_(1)) {\text{and}} (x_(2),y_(2),z_(2))=\sqrt{(x_(2)-x_(1))^2+(y_(2)-y_(1))^2+(z_(2)-z_(1))^2

1. To find the distance between two points in two or three dimensional plane

2. To find the exact length of sides of Any polygon if the coordinates of vertices of polygon is known which helps in calculating the perimeter as well as Area of geometrical shapes.

3. While using Ruler or divider, there are chances that there can be some measurement error, but with the help of distance formula , distance is accurate and error free.
