Look at the problem and work shown. In which line was an error made and what should have been done differently? Six less than 4 times a number is 50. What is the number? 6 – 4n = 50 (line 1) 6 – 6 – 4n = 50 – 6 (line 2) –4n = 44 (line 3) –4n÷ –4 = 44÷ –4 (line 4) n = –11 (line 5)

The line that is wrong is line one.

"Six less"=-6

"four times a number"=4n

"is 50"= =50

4n-6=50 add 6 to both sides

4n=56 divide both sides by 4

n=14

So, wrong on very first line...line one should have been: 4n-6=50
