The cell membrane is a phospholipidic structure that separates the internal environment of the cell from the outside. It protects the cell and allows communication with the outside by the selective exchange of molecules. It is present in all kinds of cells, prokaryotes (such as bacteria) and eukaryotes (in both animal and plant cells).
