In a paragraph of at least three sentences, explain the mood of this excerpt from Little Brother. Provide details from the text to support your answer. I wanted to stick my head between my knees. "Listen Jolu, that was really stupid of me. I did it at like two in the morning. I was just crazy when it was happening. I—" I couldn't explain it. Yeah, he was right, and that was the problem. It had been two in the morning but I could have talked to Jolu about it the next day or the next. I hadn't because I'd known what he'd say—that it was an ugly hack, that I needed to think it through better. Jolu was always figuring out how to turn my 2 AM ideas into real code, but the stuff that he came out with was always a little different from what I'd come up with. I'd wanted the project for myself. I'd gotten totally into being M1k3y.

Answer and explanation:

By definition, mood is the atmosphere created by an author in order to provoke certain feelings and an emotional response in readers. Setting, imagery, and diction are very helpful in creating the mood. Words that define the mood of a literary work are usually associated with feelings: happiness, fear, tranquility etc.

In the paragraph we are analyzing here, the word choice helps create the anxious and regretful mood. The narrator stutters when talking to another character, not being able to apologize properly. We can tell he feels sorry for something that was said at 2 a.m. He regrets having even suggested a certain idea, and is nervous about being forgiven and understood by Jolu -- "Listen Jolu, that was really stupid of me. I did it at like two in the morning. I was just crazy when it was happening. I—"
