1. Chlorophyll is the pigment in plats that absorbs light. If plants were not able to absorb light they would not be able to do photosynthesis and they would not be able to survive. Plants are green because green light is the only wavelength not absorbed by the chlorophyll in plants so this is the color o light that gets reflected back to our eyes.

2.Plants are essential to life on Earth because they convert energy from the sun into stored energy which can be used by animals. They are also essential because one of the outputs of photosynthesis is oxygen which is necessary for breathing and sustaining life. Animals need plants because plants produce oxygen and because animals are unable to convert solar energy into usable energy themselves so they need plants to convert solar energy into chemical energy, which is done through the process of photosynthesis. Animals need this so that animals can use the stored energy that is produced by the plants.
