Let's set it up like this:

3a+1=-3.6\left(a-1\right)
Multiply both sides by 10.

3a\cdot \:10+1\cdot \:10=-3.6\left(a-1\right)\cdot \:10

30a+10=-36\left(a-1\right)
We are now going to do the Distributive property, in thise case, we are going to multiply
-36 by the inside of the parenthesis.

30a+10=-36a+36
Subtract 10 from both sides.

30a+10-10=-36a+36-10

30a=-36a+26
Add
36a to both sides.

30a+36a=-36a+26+36a

66a=26
Divide both sides by 66.

(66a)/(66)=(26)/(66)
Our answer would be:

a=(13)/(33)

Let me know if you need any more help!
Thanks!
