Karla has spent $42 on food. She bought milk, cheese, and meat. The milk cost half as much as the cheese and the meat cost four times as much as the cheese. What equation would help you find the cost of the cheese?

M = milk

C= cheese

X=meat

milk = 0.5c

meat = 4c

cheese = 1c

4 +0.5 = 1c = 5.5c

C= 42/5.5 = 7.64

X = 7.64 x 4 = 30.56

M =7.64 * 0.5 = 4.67

30.56 + 3.82 + 7.64 = approximately $42
