40% of 50 is the same as 0.40 times 50
so the end cost would be orignal cost+increase or 50 times 1+50 times 0.40 or
50(1)+50(0.40)=50(1+0.40)=50(1.40)=50+(50 x .4)
it's correct because of math, (just think about it)
