The short story “ Mericans “ written by Sandra Cisneros is the story about children from Mexican descent living in America. They are trying to find their identity between these two worlds. They don’t use their Mexican names in America but easier sounding English names. Micaella (Michelle) narrates the story and she shows the differences between the two cultures, like in the excerpt what the dress code is for church and the woman trying to speak Spanish.
