What are all the ways an election affects a community?

Ex. Some citizens volunteer their time to help with a candidate's campaign.

- Could effect the citizens directly by causing interference with their daily lives.
- The person being elected could directly or indirectly affect the community by the rules they make or wish to make
- It could cause a spilt between the community.
(A direct example here, if one is needed, would be the Shia's and Sunnis'. They split apart because they had different beliefs on who should rule.)
