2. Using what you know of particle motion in solids, liquids, and gases, explain why you think temperature changes affect a substance's

state of matter. Use the terms particle motion, temperature, solid, liquid, and gas in your answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

Temperature changes have significant impact on the physical states of matter and it drives most physical changes and even the chemical alteration occurring to substances.

  • When the temperature of substance increases, the particle's average kinetic energy increases.
  • The average kinetic energy of the particles is the component heat resident within a body.
  • As this energy increases, for solids, their particles in fixed lattices breaks free and begins move.
  • Further increase in the temperature will cause a motion which leads to flowing of the particles on top of one another.
  • This eventually culminates in bond breaking and hence gases forms.
  • When heat is removed, the reverse process is what is ensues.
