x + y = 13......x = 13 - y
2x - 3y = 1
2(13 - y) - 3y = 1
26 - 2y - 3y = 1
-2y - 3y = 1 - 26
-5y = -25
y = -25/-5
y = 5
x + y = 13
x + 5 = 13
x = 13 - 5
x = 8
so, x = 8 and y = 5
