joe and his partner have recently gone through a divorce. as part of the terms of the split, Joe is ordered to pay 1/10 of his salary to support his former partner and 1/3 of his salary to support the couple's kids. if Joe annual salary is $85.000 how much of his money does he keep for himself?

1st he has to pay 10% of his salary: 85,000 x 10% = 85,500 x 0.1 = $8,500
2nd) he has to psy 1/3 of his salary: 85,000x(1/3) = 85,000/3 = $28,334
TOATAL PAYMENTS: 8,500 + 28,333 = $36,834
TOTAL YEARLY EARNING : $85,000
MONEY KEPT FOR HIMSELF = TOTAL EARNING - TOTAL PAYMENTS
MONEY KEPT = 85,000 - 36,834 = $48,166
