Grasslands are typically in somewhat arid regions where there is not enough moisture to grow trees but grass growth can be sustained. There are large areas in the world consisting of grasslands including the Argentine pampas in Patagonia, and the Great Plains of Canada and the US. Some grasslands are anthropogenic like many in Europe where forests were burned or cleared for agriculture.
