Pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough, is a disease caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis. Symptoms would be fever, runny nose, sneezing and common colds. For infants younger than 1 month old, the recommended antimicrobial agent is azithromycin because it has not been associated with bad side effects for young infants.
