The perimeter of a parallelogram is 180 cm.One side exceeds the other by 10 cm.What are the lengths of adjacent sides of the parallelogram?

Step 1

Let’s assume a and b are the sides of the parallelogram. The perimeter of the parallelogram = 2( a+ b)

Step 2

According to the question, one side of the parallelogram exceeds the other side by 10 cm.

Therefore, a = b + 10

Step 3

Since, the perimeter of the parallelogram = 180 cm

Therefore, 2 ( a + b ) = 180

= 2 (b + 10 + b) = 180

= (2b + 10) = 180/2

= 2b = 90 – 10

= b = 80 /2

b = 40 cm

a = b + 10 = 40 + 10 = 50 cm


Hence, the sides of the parallelogram are 40 cm and 50 cm.
