What is the value of 5 + 3x when x = 4?

5+3\cdot4=5+12=17

Our current equation is:
3x + 5.
Our value of x is 4, so we need to put the value of x in parenthesis.

3(4) + 5
3(4) means 3*4 or 3•4, meaning to multiply.
3(4) = 12.

We now have:
12 + 5
Add up our numbers.
