The membrane in the is named for Drum. Ear drum also known as tympanic membrane is a membrane of the middle ear that vibrates in response to sund waves. It is a thin cone shaped and it separates the external ear from the middle ear. It's function is to transmit sound from the air to the ossicles inside the middle ear, hence it ultimately converts and amplifies vibration in air to vibration in fluid.
