Transformations
Translations
We have that are two types of translation:
- horizontal
- vertical
Given a function f(x) and a number c, we have that
- it is translated horizontally
if f(x + c)
- it is translated vertically
if f(x) + c
For example,
the function f(x) = |x| is translated
- 2 units horizontally if we write
|x +2|
- 2 units vertically if we write
|x| + 2
In the choices we have, the choices that show horizontal translations are:
C. f(x)=-|-x+1|+4.
D. f(x)=5|x-4|-1
