If y equaled 3, then we would plug 3 into the y spot on the equation. Therefore it would be 2x+4(3)=8. Now just solve.

2x+4(3)=8
2x+12=8
2x-12=8-12
2x=-4
2x/2=-4/2
X=-2

Hope this helped!
