The invention of the sonnet is attributed to the Sicilian poet Jacopo o Giacomo da Lentini, notary of the emperor

Frederick II in the thirteenth century.

It consists of fourteen endecasyllable verses, this is eleven syllables, distributed in two quartets and two thirds.

In each of the quartets rhymes the first verse with fourth and second with third, and both quartets must use the same rhymes
