x^2 - 10x - 4 = 10\\ x^2 - 10x - 14=0\\ x^2 - 10x +25-39=0\\ (x-5)^2=39\\ x-5=-√(39) \vee x-5=√(39)\\ x=5-√(39) \vee x=5+√(39)

x^2 - 10x - 4 = 10
x^2 - 10x = 14
x^2 - 10x + 25 = 14 + 25
(x - 5)^2 = 39
x - 5 = sqrt 39
x = 5 (+-) sqrt 39

x = 5 + sqrt 39
x = 5 - sqrt 39
