It is chiefly used for dead specimen as if used for living cells energy released from the electrons can damage the cells of the living specimen making the observation and analysis futile. The transmission electron microscopes are used to know the chemical composition and surface characteristics of specimens. These are used for the detection of heavy metal poisons, identification of type of drugs.
