Points (1,1) and (2,4) lie on line k. what is the slope of the line that is perpendicular to k?

the equation for slope is ( y_{1} [/tex] --
y_(2)) over (
x_(1) --
x_(2))

so for these two points, your equation would be
(1- 4)/(1- 2)

which equals 3.

now any two lines that are perpendicular have the exact same slope by definition, so any line perpendicular to the line you just solved for will have a slope of positive 3.
