x-(x/3)=2

turn x into a fraction x/1

to get x/1 -x/3 = 2

multiply x/1 x 3/3 to get both fractions with same denominator

3x/3 - x/3

(3x-x)/3

3x-x = 2x

so now you have (2x)/3 =2

multiply both sides by 3 to get 2x = 6

divide bothe sides by 2 to get x = 3, which is the answer
