The data in the table below summarize results from 8989 pedestrian deaths that were caused by accidents. if two different deaths are randomly selected without? replacement, find the probability that they both involved intoxicated drivers. is such an event? unlikely?

we are given the total number of pedestrian deaths occuring by accidents. In thsi case, the probability of having an intoxicated driver causing a pedestrian death is 1/8989. since the problem says without replacement, then the second probability is equal to 1/8988. the total probability is (1/8989)*(1/8988) equal to 1/80793132 or 1.24 x10^-8.
