If the length of one base of a trapezoid is 5, the length of the other base is 2x + 7, and the length of the midsegment is 6x – 24, what is the value of x? show equations and all work that leads to your answer.

The length of the midsegment of a trapizoid is equal to the average of the 2 bases, therefore...

((2x+7)+5)/(2) =6x+24
And From that point on you use algebra to solve the problem.

(2x+12)/(2) =6x+24

x+6=6x+24
6=5x+24
6=5x+24
-18=5x
x= (-18)/(5)
