Cu²⁺ (aq) + Na₂CO₃ (aq) ----> CuCO₃ (s) + 2 Na⁺ (aq) molecular equation

Before we find the net ionic equation we have to write the total ionic equation. To do that we have to split the soluble compounds into its ions.

Cu²⁺ (aq) + 2 Na⁺ (aq) + CO₃²⁻ (aq) ----> CuCO₃ (s) + 2 Na⁺ (aq) total ionic equation

And to get the net ionic equation we have to identify the spectator ions and cancel them. Spectator ions are the ones that don't participate in the reaction, they are present on both sides of the reaction. The only spectator ion in this equation is Na⁺. If we cancel it from both sides of the equation we get the net ionic equation.
