Answer:

The nurse should encourage the patient to adopt a high fiber diet.

Step-by-step explanation:

Diverticulosis, or diverticular disease, is a disease of the intestines characterized by the formation of diverticula, which are small pockets, in the intestinal mucosa. Diverticula form when points in the bowel wall are fragile and are projected outwards due to intestinal contractions.

The treatment for diverticulosis is mainly made with a diet rich in fiber, present in fruits and vegetables. Fiber-rich dietary supplements, such as Metamucil, may also be helpful in improving bowel function. For this reason, we can say that the nurse in the case shown in the above question is likely to indicate a high fiber diet for the patient.

If an older client's colonoscopy reveals the presence of extensive diverticulosis, then the nurse should encourage the client to follow a high-fiber diet.

To add, high fiber foods help to guard against cancer, heart disease, diverticulosis, kidney stones, PMS, obesity, and help to support a healthy digestive tract. Fiber is much more than just a regulator.
