In our body insulin is a peptide hormone which helps in the uptake of excess blood glucose into the cells but in diabetes mellitus this uptake of glucose is restricted. There are two types of diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus type 1 and diabetes mellitus type 2. Diabetes mellitus type 1 is an autoimmune disorder in which our immune system destroys the beta cells of pancreas which are responsible for insulin production in our body as a result of which body cells do not receive sufficient amount of glucose.
