That would be FALSE. What those letters as subscript actually tells is the state of the different species i.e. (s) means solid, (g) means gas, (L) means liquid and (aq) stands for aqueous.

The equation that follows is an example of the state symbols in use:

2Na_((s)) + 2H_(2)O_((l))
2NaOH_((aq)) + H_(2) _((g))
