Answer: The use of water has increased from the preindustrial times but was less widely used at that time because there were less urbanization and the use of water at that time was limited for the household purposes only. As the industries began to set up the use of groundwater increased due to the industrialization and urbanization.

People now use more water in industry and machinery and commercial purposes. The growth in population has led to more consumption of water.
