The students in Nora's class chose between two options for an assignment. 5/8 of the students chose option 1. If there are 32 students in Nora's class, how many chose option 1?

Answer:

20

Explanation:

First, find the decimal of 5/8, which is 0.625

Since it is a decimal, you cannot divide it because it will multiply it instead.

We will have to use multiplication because since it is a decimal it is the same as dividing.

There are 32 students, so multiply by 0.625

Your answer is 20

Hope this helped!

Okay. 5/8 can be multiplied by x to meet the denominator 32.

5 * 4 = 20
8 * 4 = 32.

As you can see, I just multiplied the number that made 8 to 32. (32 / x = 8, 8 * 4 = 32, 32 / 4 = 8.)
