y= 3x + 2

Two lines are parallel if they have the SAME slope:
Part 1) Find the slope of a line that is parallel to the given line: SLOPE = 3

Part 2) Find the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the given line:
Two lines are perpendicular if the slope of one is the negative reciprocal of the other ( example if the slope of the 1st is "a" , the slope of the perpendicular line will be "(- 1/a)"

In our case a = 3, then the line perpendicular will be - 1/3

(or in shorter terms the product of the slopes of 2 perpendicular lines = -1)

( 3 x -1/3 = -1)

Answer:

3

-1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

Parallel lines have equal slopes, so the slope of the line which is parallel to y = 3x + 2 is the same as its slope.

The slope of y = 3x + 2 is 3.

Hence, the slope of the line which is parallel to y = 3x + 2 is 3.

As for perpendicular lines, they have slopes that are opposite reciprocals.

The opposite reciprocal of 3 is -1/3.

Hence, the slope is -1/3.
