Step-by-step explanation:

Bartolomeu Dias was a Portuguese explorer that sailed around the southern coast of Africa and “discovered” the connection between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. He named the spot Cape of Good Hope.

But Dias returned to Portugal in December 1488 and only came back to the route with Vasco da Gama, another famous explorer. But when they reached Cape Verde islands, Dias parted ways with Gama. Vasco later reached India, in May 1498.
