President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his inaugural speech on March 1933. He had to prepare something special because the Great Depression was heavily affecting the economy of the United States, many companies closed, people lost their jobs, and banks went bankruptcy. It was not an easy task for Roosevelt. He wanted to use the power of the federal government to counter-attack the effects of the Great Depression. During his speech, he said the quote "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." And then he added, "I ask the Congress for the one remaining instrument to meet the crisis, broad executive power to wage a war against the emergency..."
