In this excerpt, Paine uses a rhetorical device to encourage readers to feel anger and contempt for the British troops.
He calls the British soldiers "robbers" and says they are not as strong as the American soldiers. He is trying to motivate them to realize they are stronger than the British and that they shouldn't fear them, but rather be angry and thus have even more reason to fight them.
