Why did France expect to be compensated after world war 1

they were helping the allie side and their were team with u.s

They expected to be compensated after WWI because they were part of the winning side, the Allied powers, and Germany was paying heavy reparations as according to the treaty ending the war (Versailles? Not sure) and Germany had done a lot of damage to France specifically since they were so close.
