April built a model of the F-16 Fighting Falcon that is proportional to the actual F-16 Fighting Falcon. The actual F-16 has a length of 14.8 meters and a wingspan that measures 9.8 meters. Her model has a length of 0.5 meter.

length / wingspan

14.8 / 9.8 = 0.5 / x
cross multiply
(14.8)(x) = (9.8)(0.5)
14.8x = 4.9
x = 4.9 / 14.8
x = 0.331 meters....wingspan of model

Answer:

The wingspan of the model is 0.33 meter.

Explanation:

Let as assume that we need to find the wingspan of the model.

The actual F-16 has a length of 14.8 meters and a wingspan that measures 9.8 meters.

It is given that length of the model is 0.5 meter.

Let x be the wingspan of the model.

It is given that a model of the F-16 Fighting Falcon that is proportional to the actual F-16 Fighting Falcon.

(14.8)/(9.8)=(0.5)/(x)

On cross multiplication we get

14.8* x=0.5* 9.8

14.8x=4.9

Divide both sides by 14.8.

x=(4.9)/(14.8)

x\approx 0.33

Therefore, the wingspan of the model is 0.33 meter.
