Earth's life zone, formally called the "troposphere" is the first, or the lowest level of atmosphere. It contains 70-80% of the mass of the entire atmosphere and within it almost all of the weather occurs. It's altitude ranges from 7 km above sea level in the polar region to 20 km above sea level in the tropical region. So the approximate altitude of the troposphere is from 7-20 km above sea level.
