If 6 cans is $9 then we have to divide 9 by 6 to get the cost for one can.
9/6 = 1.5
So the cost for 1 can of soup is $1.50

you're trying to find how much it would cost for 1 can of soup so you would divide $9 by 6 because to get 6 cans to 1 can you need to divide 6 by 6:
$9.00÷6= $1.50
so the unit rate is $1.50
hope this helps : )
