The negative aspect of Populism is the use of "popular government measures", designed to win the sympathy of the population, particularly if it has the right to vote, even at the cost of taking measures contrary to the democratic state. However, despite the anti-institutional characteristics that it may have, its primary objective is not to profoundly transform social, economic and political structures and relationships, but to preserve power and political hegemony through popularity among the masses.
