Trade provided goods from south of the Sahara to the people of North Africa, the Mediterranean, and, later, Europe. This helped them develop faster.

Trade contributed to the rise of the Sudan states by enabling them to sell their local products to foreign markets as well as enabling them to acquire products that are not of their own. The trading among these states and its neighboring states gave its Sudan rulers more wealth, vast connections to foreign merchants, and monopoly on valuable products like horses and metals.

Trading does not only mean an exchange of goods but also an exchange of knowledge and experiences that will help the individuals in these states flourish and grow.
