Why do particles like meteors and comets glow in the evening sky?

The answer to the question above is "because the friction from the Earth's atmosphere causes them to heat up" which is why particles like meteors and comets glow in the evening sky. There are a lot of debris in the Earth's atmosphere that could create frictions to the particle. These debris are the reason why the particles glow.
