Help pleaseee!!!The following table shows the percent increase of donations made on behalf of a non-profit organization for the period of 1984 to 2003. Use a graphing calculator to make a scatter plot of the data. Find an equation for and graph the line of regression. Then use the equation to predict the percent donated in the year 2015. Select one:

a. 609.5
b. 936.7
c. -247.7
d. 229.3
e. 282.3

Answer: E. 282.3

The unit rate for the most recent years (2001&2003) is 5.3. Multiply that by the number of years there was until 2015 and add it to 218.7 to get 282.3.

Answer:

The correct option is e.

Explanation:

Let x be the number of years after 1984 and y be the percent donated. So, the general linear regression equation is

y=ax+b .... (1)

The following table shows the percent increase of donations made on behalf of a non-profit organization for the period of 1984 to 2003.

year : 1984 1989 1993 1997 2001 2003

x : 0 5 9 13 17 19

Percent (y): 118 144.5 165.7 186.9 208.1 218.7

Using the graphing calculator we get

a=5.3,b=118

Substitute a=5.3 and b=118 in equation (1).

y=5.3x+118

The linear regression equation is y=5.3x+118.

For year 2015 the number of years after 1984 is 31. Substitute x=21 in the above equation to predict the percent donated in the year 2015.

y=5.3(31)+118

y=282.3

The percent donated in the year 2015 is 282.3. Therefore the correct option is e.
